Found growing with other perennials and small Fuchsias, forming a dense cover. On upright rigid dark stems, woody at their bases, bearing thick textured oblong leaves 10-15cm long. As well as bright orange and yellow long-lipped tubular flowers 7-8 cm long, from the axils of the terminal leaves. A close relative to Lobelia, which it somewhat resembles in flower, but more in common with Codonopsis when out of flower. From one of our seed collections gathered from a botanically rich area of Termales del Ruiz, Colombia at 3750m in 2024. Best grown in a partly shaded spot, in a moisture retentive soil with protection for the roots in winter.
