A small unarmed tree, with glabrous thin textured five-foliate leaves which are aristately arranged. Bearing terminal slenderly branched cymose inflorescences of yellowish flowers followed by an abundance of small purple-black depressed-globose fruit on bright red stalks. Our collection from the Aomori District, N. Honshu, Japan. Syn. Eleutherococcus.
