An extremely hardy species we collected seed of from the high mountain forest of Mt. Matsuoyama in the autumn of 2005. Where the 60 cm tall stems were growing on the forest floor with tall Aconitum and Filipendula. With a large terminal fruit splitting to reveal the red aril surrounding the blue seen, a consequence of the white cupped flowers with a large boss of golden yellow stamen in their centres April-May. Best cultivated in well drained fertile soil with added humus in cool part shade, being careful not to bury the crown.
