Patrinia (Valerianaceae)

triloba v. palmata

A charming stoloniferous variety of this woodland species originating from the cool mountainous regions of Honshu and Kyushu in Japan. Only shortly creeping with stems to 30cm long bearing the 3-5 lobed irregularly incised and toothed palmate leaves which are dark green red tinted in autumn, a perfect foil for the many flowered cymes of clear yellow spurred flowers carried July-September. Easily grown in a cool well drained fertile soil with some moisture retention in either part or full shade.
