A plentiful species where we found small colonies of this perennial growing on the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, Guatemala at 3300m in 2004. With vertical stiff dark stems to 1 m tall clothed by linear-lanceolate soft textured leaves. With terminal dense spikes of deep-red tubular flowers. Easily grown in any type of drained fertile soil in full sun to part shade.
