Sapium (Euphorbiaceae) BSWJ8744

japonicum

A wonderful small hardy tree that we just had to grow, having encountered it in the wild in very harsh conditions in South Korea, where the autumn colour just shouts out at you. The pale silver-greyish roughly striate bark alone is worthy of merit, with a definite upright habit topped by a canopy of ovate entire leaves turning deep red. Bearing axillary tassels of flowers in June followed by dangling nut-like capsules on slender stems. Best grown in a hot sunny well drained position. Our collection Goje-Dõ. Can you believe they have changed the name to Neoshirakia?
