Stachys (Lamiaceae) BSWJ10427

species from Guatemala

Unflowered for us as yet a collection we gathered on a gravely shaded slope at high altitude on the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes plateau in Guatemala at 3300m in 2004, home to the colourful Mayan Indians. Where it had formed small bushy sub-shrubs with slender upright stems to 25cm tall bearing small rough textured spatulate grey green leaves and layered whirls of bristly seed capsules in abundance. Easily grown in a sunny well drained position, best with a bit of protection from sever frost. Possibly a small S. coccinea.
