Sorbus corymbifera  WWJ11860

Description

Distinct in being an evergreen small tree in the wild, something that had my collecting partner Peter Wharton in raptures when we discovered it on the cool mountain Séo Mí Tý in northern Vietnam in the autumn of 2007. Only forming single trunked trees to 4m tall, bearing the distinct thick textured very dark dull green semi-cordate crenate leaves to 20 cm long. Bearing terminal panicles of the largest fruit I have seen, orbicular lenticeled yellowish green turning reddish. Best grown in a fertile well drained soil with some moisture retention in full sun, protect from severe cold while young.
