Sorbus epidendron  WWJ11930

Description

An unusual species that Peter Wharton and myself found in a forest where we camped in close to the Chinese border in northern Vietnam in 2007. Only forming small trees to large shrubs even large epiphytes high in the trees in those moist conditions, with simple cordate leaves to 15 cm long by 6 wide, with smooth upper surfaces with parallel venation hardly conspicuous. While the orbicular small crab apple sized fruit were in terminal cymes, green ripening reddish. Easily grown in any type of fertile well drained soil with some moisture retention, protect from severe cold while young.
