(Stachyuraceae)
Stachyurus aff. lancifolius from Yakushima BSWJ11508
Description
A new form for us which we found growing with Hydrangea angustipetala on the island of Yakushima in 2006. Where it formed a large shrub with strong arching branches to 3-4m, from low down, bearing large ovate-elongate soft textured leaves. With long axillary pendant racemes of plump seed capsules, which had succeeded the small yellow flowers from late February to April. Easily grown in full sun-part shade in any type of fertile drained soil with a bit of shelter from freezing winds.
