Description
From one of our collections gathered in the forests of Chejudõ the island between South Korea and Japan. Where it grew close to a dried riverbed forming a clump of thick perennial rhizomes with yellowish stems to 1m tall, bearing slender almost sessile leaves 40cm long by 7cm wide. With flowers opening lilac-pink from dark yellow buds in this form, late summer at ground level close to the base of the leaf stems. Easily grown in sun to part shade in a moisture retentive but well drained soil, hardy to -23C. Used as a garnish in Japanese cuisine.
